How much liquid laundry detergent to use: read your exact chart

Compare the supported exact liquid detergents, their published load conditions and measuring instructions. Match the bottle before choosing a dose.

The direct answer

Use the dosing chart for your exact detergent, matching its formula, format, market and bottle size. Select only the load, soil or water adjustment the maker publishes. Do not scale another product’s dose by kilograms or convert an undefined cap into millilitres. The current pack is your final reference.

Keep these restrictions together
  • Match the formula, country, format and bottle before reading the dose.
  • Use the published chart entry and matching measuring device.
  • Do not extrapolate a dose or assume all caps hold the same volume.
In this guide

Start with the bottle in your hand

Find the exact product name, country, formula and bottle size first. The lookup currently covers 9 liquid references across the UK, US and Australia. Each row below belongs to that product; a similar bottle is not a match.

Use the chart printed on your current matching pack if it differs. Powders and pods need their own instructions. A washer’s rated capacity is not the weight of the laundry you are dosing for.

Compare every supported liquid reference

Read the load condition beside the amount. A cap line, squeeze or capful stays attached to its own measuring device; it is not a transferable millilitre unit. These are manufacturer instructions, not WashSage cleaning-performance tests.

Why a millilitre-per-kilogram shortcut fails

A chart gives instructions for named conditions. It does not automatically define a linear relationship. For example, the existence of a 27 mL entry does not establish that twice the laundry needs 54 mL. Look for the next applicable manufacturer entry instead of multiplying until a number looks plausible.

The same applies to units. A cap line is usable when it matches the supplied cap. If the reference does not define a cap volume, converting it into an invented millilitre figure would remove the information needed to measure it correctly.

Make a dosing note you can repeat

Record the selected product and the chart condition beside the amount. “27 mL, matching UK Persil Bio standard-load instruction” is more useful than “a small capful”. Keep water or soil adjustments attached to the exact product that supplies them.

Where a condition is unknown, do not quietly substitute another brand’s instructions. Check the pack or ask that product’s maker. A larger washing-machine rating is also not proof of the actual laundry load you are dosing for.

  • Identify the exact product and bottle.
  • Check the applicable load and condition entry.
  • Use the stated amount or matching cap line.
  • Follow dispensing instructions for that product and appliance.
  • Recheck the chart when buying a different formula or pack.

Confirm fabric suitability before measuring the dose

A precisely measured product can still be unsuitable for an item. Woolmark recommends a suitable mild, neutral detergent for wool and cautions against relevant unsuitable detergent types. Follow the finished item’s label and the appliance instructions before borrowing a standard liquid reference.

The lookup helps you retrieve supported instructions without pretending that missing conditions are known. Use it to match an exact reference; use your own pack when the match is incomplete.

Build a dosing record without a universal ml-per-kg rule

Keep a photograph of the full dosing chart with the exact product name, market and pack size. Write the chart condition and the matching amount beside it. Recheck after a formula or measuring-cap change.

For a useful before-and-after correction, replace “one cap of liquid” with “the exact product, its stated load condition, and the corresponding cap line or mL amount”. That is a more repeatable record; it is not a claim of improved stain removal.

Keep a measurement you can check next time

Record the exact product, date, measuring method and actual reading. Keep a label photograph and the relevant manual page with it. A measured dry weight or dimension is useful evidence for your own item; a wash or fit result needs its own observation.

Questions before you start

How much liquid detergent should I use for an 8 kg machine?

Use your exact product’s chart for the laundry and conditions you are washing. An 8 kg machine rating is not the weight of every load. The lookup does not create a universal dose for that capacity or scale a brand’s instruction by kilograms.

Is one detergent cap always the same number of millilitres?

No universal cap volume is assumed here. Use the measuring device supplied for the matching product and bottle. Where the source gives a cap instruction without a supported volume, keep that instruction rather than substituting another cap or inventing a conversion.

Can I use the all sensitive fresh chart for the 141 oz bottle?

This lookup’s chart is explicitly for the 30 oz and 73 oz bottles. It does not supply instructions for the 141 oz pack. Read the chart on that bottle and use its matching cap.

Does the lookup cover pods or washing powder?

The lookup currently covers 9 exact liquid references. Use the maker’s instructions for a powder, pod or unsupported liquid; an amount from this table cannot be transferred to it.

Sources and scope

Dose references apply only to the named product, market and pack conditions. The instructions on your matching bottle and measuring device take priority. Report a correction with the page and supporting source.
